Training To Lead

Squadron’s staff and cadets spent time over the weekend of 28-29 November in a variety of training establishments learning about leadership and staffing in the Air Cadet Organisation.

For Cpl Zaky Hnana and Alice Wilcox, the Junior NCO Course at Mile End TA Centre offered their first step in development targets, and showed them the variety of challenges that Junior NCOs could expect to cope with. Faced with command tasks, welfare awareness and challenging their standards of uniform and drill, both cadets performed really well, and have come back to the Squadron with enthusiasm and plenty of ideas.

They were joined by newly-promoted Sergeant Philip Ashbey, who was permitted to join the course early. Sgt Ashbey took the next step on the NCO career ladder, and explored the management aspects of the Senior NCO role in a workshop format with peers from across the Wing.

Completing the development arc, FS Kevin Rees and Jen Nixon travelled to RAF Uxbridge to participate in the Wing’s Staff Development Course – aimed at informing and preparing senior cadets to make the transition to Adult Staff in the Air Cadet Organisation.

Congratulations to all of them for given up their weekends, and for the successful focus on their personal development. We hope that it will help them, and the Squadron, as we move forward.
