Remembrance Sunday Parade: On The Passing Of A Generation
The Squadron marked the passing of the generation of World War One veterans at this year’s Remembrance Sunday with a change of our own generation. For three of the Squadron’s senior cadet NCOs, this was their last Remembrance Sunday parade – and they led the Squadron in style in front of large crowds.
Marching behind the Squadron’s banner, carried by FS Kevin Rees, with CWO Luke Adams as banner Warrant Officer, the Squadron’s cadets paid their respects at the Lewisham War Memorial along with veterans, soldiers and cadets from different forces across the Borough. The Squadron’s wreath was laid by Cpl Alice Wilcox and Cdt Phillip Blake. FS Jen Nixon then took command of the parade as they marched back, to be inspected by the Mayor, Deputy Lord Lieutenant and local dignitaries. Congratulations to all of the cadets who attended on their standard of uniform and behaviour, and for all the hard work they have put in preparing for the parade.
Cadets have also supported Civilian Instructor Ken Hull and the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal in the run up to Remembrance Sunday. Working with the local Territorial Army, two of the Squadron’s cadets have been out collecting throughout the week, contributing to the total £474 raised! Congratulations to Cdt James Whipps and Cdt Charlie Turner who have made an outstanding commitment to this worthy cause – well done, gentlemen!
