Joining 1921 Squadron
Hopefully, you've read through the website, and think that 1921 (Lewisham) Squadron is for you. Now you want to know how to join? Do you have what it takes? Read our checklist, and find out if you can apply today to join the Squadron...
Joining Checklist:
- Are you between 13 and 18? For insurance and legal purposes, the Squadron cannot admit cadets under the age of 13. You may register your interest with us, and we will advise you when you can return if you do not fall between these age groups.
- Do you have a sense of humour? Making friends and having fun needs a good sense of humour: we are a friendly Squadron, and enjoy having a laugh.
- Are you willing to learn? Your opportunities in the Squadron will be limited only by what you can achieve. If you want to learn, and are keen to do well, then you can reach for everything we can offer.
- Do you have commitment and self-discipline? The Squadron is not a youth club — we are a military youth organisation. Some conformity to standards of dress and behaviour will be expected, and you will need to put some effort in to your actions and appearance. Equally, we want to give you as much as we can; and you'll need to spend time with us to benefit to the maximum. We parade twice a week, and there are often weekend activities for you to join in.
- A sense of adventure? 1921 Squadron is all about developing your sense of adventure — through training and amazing opportunities we can offer you. Do you enjoy new activities? Do you really want to have something to talk about with friends? Come and give it a go!
Joining Procedure:
The Squadron currently operates a recruit 'intake' system; where we only take new cadets in groups. This means that you can join with other people who are in the same situation as you - and this helps you to make friends and learn faster. It also means we can give you better training, and make sure you're ready to get started as a cadet.
If you would like to join, then please get in touch, or come along to an evening when we are open (details here). We will give you a tour of the Squadron, introduce you to the staff and make you feel welcome. You can fill in some initial paperwork, and we will then contact you near to your intake date. We currently operate three intakes per year: January, May and September.
