About 1921

1921 (Lewisham) Squadron is part of the Air Cadet Organisation — a uniformed youth organisation parented and supported by the Royal Air Force (RAF).

We are open to young men and women between 13 and 18 years of age, who have the willingness to work to succeed. 1921 Squadron was formed by Royal Warrant in 1941 and has a long and distinguished history within Lewisham. We are a young and friendly Squadron — we believe that you will be welcome and make friends whatever age and background you come from!

Our association with the Royal Air Force is very much to our benefit. We aim to foster a sense of adventure in our cadets, and develop their confidence and skills through training and extraordinary opportunities. The RAF’s support means that we can offer young people the chance to get involved with activities they may not otherwise have the opportunity to do. We offer cadets the chance to pilot aircraft and gliders, learn to shoot under qualified supervision, and visit and stay at RAF stations across the country. In addition to these amazing experiences, we offer range of sporting and adventurous activities, as well as the opportunity to gain Duke of Edinburgh’s Award standards through basic expedition training.

We are open twice a week, and often offer weekend activities to cadets. Costs to cadets are minimal, and there is no requirement to join the Royal Air Force — we do not operate as a recruiting centre!

For more information on joining the Squadron, please visit our Recruitment page, where you can find details on joining as a cadet or as a potential member of staff. For more details about the Squadron staff, please continue on to our Staff page. Of course, we believe that the best way of finding out more about us is to come and see for yourself. We recommend that you contact a member of staff before you visit — then we can ensure someone will be available to answer any questions you may have. You can also telephone the Squadron on 0203 248 2052 during parades.
